MAY

NORTHWINDS CONCERT BAND PRESENTS:

SATURDAY POP CONCERT

"MOVIES AND MORE"

NW

MAY  6 - 7:30  PM

Northwinds Concert Band's Spring Concert is filled with foot-tapping music from the movies (and more), beginning with the opening theme from "Rocky."  The acclaimed 60-piece wind ensemble, directed by Larry Marsh, will present great music from films, old and new, including Franz Waxman's score for 1954's "Prince Valiant," based on America's longest-running comic strip. The music is notable for showing just how much John Williams and other modern film composers owe to past masters such as Waxman.  Vocalist Ike Eichenberger will sing a great novelty swing tune called "Down With Love."   Northwinds' principal clarinetist Michael Montague will be featured in Astor Piazzolla's sensuous Argentinian tango "Oblivion."  The sticks will be flying when Cliff McDaniel adds a fifth drum to his usual four timpani for a new work called "Blenkiev."  John Powell's score for the 2010 acclaimed animated film "How to Train Your Dragon" features bombastic brass and joyous percussion for the Scottish and Irish-flavored melodies and rhythms. Don't miss this great concert during Valley of Flowers weekend.

A classic comedy for the whole family to enjoy!  Elwood P. Dowd is a polite and friendly man with a very strange best friend ... a six-and-a-half-foot-tall rabbit named Harvey.   Elwood’s sister - Veta - is concerned that Elwood’s behavior will hamper her social life, so she decides to have Elwood committed to a nearby sanatorium.  However when she becomes hysterical while trying to explain her brother’s condition to the sanatorium staff, she ends up being committed instead.  Elwood leaves the sanatorium grounds unbothered, turning the town upside down as everyone goes on the lookout for the mild mannered hero and his invisible rabbit.  This Pulitzer Prize winning script  is one of the most loved of American theater.  Come see why!
