Add Harry S. Truman Day - Plaque Dedication to your calendarExport to Calendar

Event Description:

harrytruman

It is known that Harry S. Truman visited Historic Old Town Florissant for a speech in 1934 in front of the Bunker’s Tavern building. The City of Florissant is dedicating a Walk through History plaque in his honor in front of the building on Friday, November 16, 6-9 PM.

Harry S. Truman was born May 8, 1884 in Lamar, MO and grew up on his 550 acre family farm near Independence MO. Harry was a Missouri senator in 1934 and then Vice President in 1945, very briefly, until the death of Franklin D Roosevelt, making Harry the 33rd President of the United States. He won the next presidential election on November 2, 1948 in a surprise upset over Thomas E. Dewey, marking this plaque dedication as the 70 year anniversary.

This will also wrap up Mayor Thomas Schneider’s “Voter Awareness Week” which runs from October 29th to November 2.

Sponsored by The City of Florissant and Florissant Old Town Partners. Hosted by Bunkers Tavern, Vogt State Farm Insurance, and Amore Pizza.

Amore will have hotdogs for $1.00. Hamburgers and brats for $3.00. Vogt State Farm will have free water and soda.

We will have firepits to keep you warm and free marshmallows for everyone!

We will have a raffle for a very nice firepit so please don’t miss that!

You are welcome to bring you own coolers, snacks, smores items and long forks. We are dog friendly too!

Dan the Piano Man Leonard will play some of the same tunes that President Truman played on the White House piano.

Bring the entire family! It will be fun!
