Florissant Police Department to host another Citizen Police Academy

The Citizen Academy is an 8-week educational, citizen involvement activity designed by the Police Department as part of their C.O.P.S. Program. The goal of this class is to promote understanding between citizens and police officers regarding their respective needs and concerns. By promoting this understanding it is hoped that citizens and police will work better together.

This is a unique opportunity for citizens to experience a taste of police training through classroom participation. Some areas of training include constitutional law, patrol procedures, firearms training (by use of the shooting simulator), gangs and gang activity, narcotics, self-defense, and etc. Role-playing is done to emphasize the training.

The Academy is open to residents age 18 and over who complete and pass the application process. There is no cost to attend, but registration is mandatory. The Florissant Police Department reserves the right to deny any applicant.

To register, contact Sgt. Kevin Boschert in the Crime Prevention Unit at 314- 830-6042. Classes are held twice a year and are conducted upon interest. Seating is limited and these classes fill up quickly, so don't delay.
