The Florissant Police Department is actively involved in the COPS theory of law enforcement, which is based upon the premise that officers and members of the community they serve create partnerships and work together to solve problems that affect the quality of life in the community. The application of problem solving strategies is a vital element of this philosophy of policing.
This change in philosophy in the way officers do their job is bringing back the "beat" officer perspective, wherein the officer is familiar with the business owners and residents in his/her patrol area. With a C.O.P.S Philosophy, the officers are empowered to address any and all problems within their assigned area and make every effort to solve these concerns.
The Florissant Police Department has taken the COPS philosophy one step further in working with the indigent, the handicapped and senior residents, who have special needs that they cannot afford to purchase. Working along side the 'Habitat for Humanity', the 'Parker Road Baptist Church Missions Centrifuge' (M-Fuge Missions), and area Senior High School students, Florissant Police Officers have constructed wheelchair ramps, cleaned brush from yards and assisted our residents with projects that benefit those most in need while improving the quality of life for the overall community.
