The FFAC and the City of Florissant continue their series of Big Band Concerts featuring Gary Dammer on trumpet and 17 of the St. Louis area's finest musicians.

Missouri Cameo Club Presents: MS. MISSOURI SENIOR AMERICA PAGEANT

Twelve lovely ladies will compete for the title of Ms. Missouri Senior America 2008. The four areas of competition are: A personal interview prior to the pageant, a talent presentation on stage, poise in an evening gown and her philosophy of life. The winner will represent the State of Missouri as she competes in the Ms Senior America Pageant in Atlantic City in October.

Although “1776” tells the story of what happened at the Continental Congress in Philadelphia, PA, in 1776 leading up to the signing of the United States Declaration of Independence, and it accurately portrays the serious personal and political issues at stake – frequently in the characters’ own words, written by them at the time – it remains a musical comedy.

The result is a non-stop laugh-fest in which a crafty slave (Pseudolus) struggles to win the hand of a beautiful but slow-witted courtesan (Philla) for his young master (Hero), in exchange for freedom.

Arts for Life 9th Annual Best Performance Awards for Community Musical Theatre

AFT’s Best Performance Awards recognize excellence in community musical theatre in the St. Louis area. A local version of the “Tony Awards” this variety show with awards ceremony is a way for the community to say “Thank You” to the hundreds of local musicians, thespians, technicians and volunteers who give selflessly of themselves to keep the performing arts alive. Be transported to a lovely French provincial town where the pretty, but “odd,” Belle lives with her father. When her father disappears on his way to the local fair, Belle sets off to find him. To her shock, she discovers he is being held captive by a horrible Beast in an enchanted castle. She trades her freedom for her father’s and a “tale as old as time” begins. A celebration of the church basement kitchen and the women, who work there, Church Basement Ladies, is a new musical comedy featuring four distinct characters and their relationships as they organize the food and solve the problems of a rural Minnesota church.
They stave off potential disasters, share and debate recipes, instruct the young and keep the Pastor on due course while thoroughly enjoying (and tolerating) each other as the true “steel magnolias” of the church. Funny and down to earth, you will recognize these ladies as they witness the church year unfold from below the house of God.
