BRIDGE CLUB
Offered each Friday from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm in the Arts and Crafts room at the J. J. Eagan Center. Bring your own sandwich, coffee is provided and enjoy meeting and playing Bridge with other Florissant Senior residents.

 

BUS TRANSPORTATION
F.L.E.R.T. BUS (Florissant Local Elderly Resident Transportation)
FREE bus transportation is available for door-to-door transportation anywhere within the City Limits of Florissant for Senior residents, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am until 3:30 pm, Saturdays from 8:30 am until 1:30 pm and on Sundays for Church Services. Appointments may be scheduled Monday through Friday by calling 314-839-1776, between the hours of 8:30 am and 12:00 pm. Reservations are required 24 hours in advance for regular trips. Medical appointments are accepted three to five working days in advance. City sponsored parties, flu shots, tax appointments and the Mayor's Town Hall meeting are accepted three to five working days in advance. Other special Senior events will be posted on our website and informational flyers if the bus will be available.

Those under 60 years of age with disabilities may also use the bus with a written request to the Mayor's Office and a letter or fax stating the disability and the need for the transportation from their doctor. This request may be sent to Mayor Robert Lowery, Sr., Florissant City Hall 955 Rue St. Francois, Florissant, MO 63031 or Fax #314-921-7111.

BUS TRIPS

Available to City of Florissant Senior Clubs. Two buses are available for trips within a 50 mile radius of our City. There is a minimum of 20 people per bus, with a maximum of 25. The cost of each bus is $50.00, with an additional charge of $2.00 for each non-resident. Each group is allowed 6 non-resident members per bus. Everyone must provide a current Resident ID Card (or for non-residents a picture ID), an emergency contact and phone number. Wheelchair accessibility is not available on our trip buses. CRAFT BOUTIQUE
Tables are provided at no charge to talented Senior residents to display their crafted items. The event will be held November 8, 2008 at the JFK Center located at 315 Howdershell Road in Koch Park. The tables are on a "first come, first serve basis", with sign ups beginning September 8th. The Craft Boutique has a great reputation among the general public as the items sold are of great quality and affordable prices for everyone.

DINING CENTER
The Senior Dining Center is located at 621 rue St. Francois and is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. Reservations are required 24 hours in advance and may be made by calling 314-839-7603 before 11:00 am. A wonderful catered lunch is served each day at 12:00 noon for only $3.00 for residents and $4.00 for non-residents, who must be accompanied by a Florissant Senior Resident. Menus are listed in the North County Journal, Cable Channel #10, both Civic Centers or the Dining Center. The F.L.E.R.T. Bus is also available from your door to the Dining Center by calling 314-839-1776 for reservations. A great way to meet others, have a great lunch and also enjoy playing cards, Bingo, exercise classes, parties and day trips. Free Blood Pressure readings are also available each month.

DISCOUNT PROGRAM
Seniors who present their Florissant Photo ID Card have the opportunity of receiving special discounts on programs offered through the City and from local businesses that participate in the Golden Age Discount Program.

EMERGENCY CONTACT INFORMATION
Seniors who apply for a Resident Card are required to fill out information regarding their emergency contacts during the day and evening hours. This information is kept in the Senior Office as another benefit to the Senior residents in case of an emergency situation.

FIFTY-FIVE AND ALIVE PROGRAM
Thanks to the Florissant Police Dept. and members of AARP, Senior Citizens have the opportunity of participating in a wonderful program that focuses on some of the bad habits mature drivers fall into over the years. Many automobile insurance companies will give discounted rates to those individuals who successfully complete this program. AARP charges a small fee for this eight-hour program which is held on two consecutive days at the Florissant Police Department located at 1700 North Highway 67. FILE OF LIFE
A small red plastic pocket with a magnet on the back, contains a card listing emergency medical information, and is placed on the outside of the Senior resident's refrigerator. It enables medics to obtain a quick medical history when the patient is unable to offer one. A purse/wallet size is also available. This recorded information is also very helpful to take along to doctor appointments, hospitals or for other family members. This is available at no charge when residents register for Senior services.

FLORISSANT FOCUS
This publication is mailed to residents several times throughout the year, and list information on all of the many programs and activities held throughout the City of Florissant. Several pages are devoted especially to the Senior Citizens, and spotlight upcoming events and programs for Senior residents.

FLU SHOTS - Senior Citizens will have the opportunity of obtaining Flu shots from two local companies. TIP HealthCare will provide Flu & Pneumonia Shots at the J.J. Eagan Center on Tuesday, October 7th and Tuesday, October 28th from 9am until 4pm. MediNurse will provide Flu & Pneumonia shots at the JFK Center on Wednesday, October 15th from 9am until 4pm. FOOD BANK PROGRAM
The City of Florissant is proud to be a distribution site for the St. Louis Area Food Bank from the Missouri Commodity Supplemental Food Program. Anyone 60 years of age and older who meet the following requirements may apply at the Senior office located at 955 Rue St. Francois, Florissant, MO 63031:  

     As of now we are able to add participants to our Food Bank Program if there is an
     opening. Please call to be put on a waiting list.

Prove verification of age
Meet income eligibility requirements of $1107.00 (total monthly income for one person)

I D PICTURE - Alzheimer's Disease/Dementia
Pictures are taken at the James J. Eagan Center (Parker Rd & Waterford Dr) of those residents who might be suffering from a memory loss or Alzheimer's. Emergency information is listed on the picture/card and it is kept on file in the Senior Office and with the Florissant Police Department.

A copy of the picture/card is also given to the Senior resident and to his/her caregiver.
Contact the Senior Office at 314-839-7604 to verify that someone is available to take the picture.

INCOME TAX ASSISTANCEi
Senior Citizens may receive help with their Federal, State and Property Tax Credit (Circuit Breaker) returns at no charge thanks to A.A.R.P. and Senior volunteers. These returns are completed between February and April 15th at the JFK Center at Koch Park.. Appointments are required and may be made through the Senior Office at 314-839-7604 or 839-7605 beginning January 14, 2008. Office hours are Monday thru Friday from 8:00 am till 5:00 pm..

INFORMATION AND HANDYMAN SERVICE
Phone numbers for handymen, lawn and snow removal, contractors, housekeepers and information regarding many services may be obtained through the Senior Office. Please call the Senior Office to find out about our many programs that Seniors may want to get involved in. LINE DANCING - Offered at no charge every Wednesday at the J.J. Eagan Center from 12:30pm till 2:00 pm.

PARTIES/DANCES/ACTIVITIES
Thanks to the Florissant Senior Commission, (which consists of two Senior volunteers from each of the nine Wards); a wonderful program of activities is offered throughout the year. We have five (5) parties during the day. The parties are held at the J.J. Eagan Center and include a dinner, raffles, attendance prizes, and on certain occasions entertainment. Our biggest party is our New Year's Eve Party that is held during the day, and has a Countdown of over 400 seniors at 12:00 noon.

We are now holding dances throughout the year for ALL SENIORS in the area (you do not need to be a resident).Calendars for the dances and other activities are available in the Senior Office. Call 839-7604 for more information.

SENIOR CLUBS AVAILABLE IN FLORISSANT
Seniors with their Resident photo ID have the opportunity of joining the many Clubs held throughout the Florissant area.

Monday Club meets each week at the J. J. Eagan Center from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm.
Social/Bingo F.L.E.R.T. bus also available.

Adult Club of Florissant meets 2nd Tuesday of each month at the J. J. Eagan Center
from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm. Social/Charitable

Pinochle Club meets every Tuesday at the JFK Center (Koch Park) from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Golden Age Club meets each Wednesday at the J. J. Eagan Center from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm. Social/Bingo F.L.E.R.T. bus also available.

Bridge Club meets every Friday at the J.J. Eagan Center from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm

SENIOR "TRASH TAG" PROGRAM - Thanks to Allied (Formerly Mid West Waste), Waste Management, and Meridian Waste Services, the City of Florissant offers to its residents an opportunity to purchase tags to be used for their trash pick up at the Receptionist Desk at City Hall. Allied Waste offers 20 tags in a bundle for $20.00 and is used for trash pick-up only. A separate bill will be sent for yard waste if needed. Waste Management offers 20 tags in a bundle for $30.00 and the tags may be used for trash and for yard waste. Meridian Waste Services offers 20 tags for $25.00 and is used for both trash and yard waste pick-up or you may also contract for yard waste on a monthly basis. Please contact the waste hauler if you have questions concerning recycling.

TOWN HALL MEETING
Each September the Mayor of the City of Florissant offers a special Town Hall Meeting for its Senior residents. There is no charge to attend the meeting, and you are encouraged to submit questions and find out what is going on in the City of Florissant. The Mayor's Town Hall Meeting will be held at the J.J. Eagan Center on September 18th.

TV SHOW
"IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE"
, shown throughout the week on City Cable Channel #10 featuring programs relating to Senior Citizens and Senior activities throughout the area.

VETERANS' BENEFITS - Each Tuesday from 8:30 am until 3:30 pm, a Veterans Service Officer is available at City Hall for Veterans wanting information regarding benefits that are available to them. Call the City Hall at 314-921-5700 to set up an appointment.
