Florissant Police to Apply for Grant Funded by the U.S. Department of Justice

The Florissant Police Department is applying for grant funding from the United States Department of Justice (DOJ), Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), under the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Formula Program.  Under this program the Florissant Police Department has been allocated $42,765 for which it must propose a project for approval by the BJA.

The Police Department proposes a Services Officer Project that meets the JAG/Byrne program objective of creating new jobs.  The goal of this project is to create one new position of Services Officer to free sworn police officers from many routine functions, allowing officers more time for community policing and enforcement activities.  The Services Officer will assist the department in various assignments not requiring the exercise of police powers; assisting sworn and non-sworn staff in routine department functions; and, other ancillary duties that support the overall mission of the Police Department.  The Services Officer will be assigned to the Bureau of Field Operations and will be under the supervision of a patrol Sergeant but available to assist all components of the Police Department as necessary.

In accordance with the requirements of the grant process, the department will accept comment on this proposal from interested citizens who may call Captain John Foster at 314-830-6014 or write the department at 1700 North Highway 67, Florissant, MO  63033.
