Florissant Police Department to host 17th Citizen Police Academy

Florissant Police Chief William Karabas announced that the Florissant Police Department would host their 17th Citizen Police Academy Course beginning Tuesday, September 9, 2008.

The Citizen Academy is an 8-week (3 hours per session) educational, citizen involvement activity designed by the Police Department as part of their C.O.P.S. Program.  The goal of this class is to promote understanding between citizens and police officers regarding their respective needs and concerns.  By promoting this understanding it is hoped that citizens and police will work better together.

This is a unique opportunity for citizens to experience a taste of police training through classroom participation. Some areas of training include constitutional law, patrol procedures, firearms training (by use of the shooting simulator), gangs and gang activity, narcotics, and more police related topics.  Role-playing is done to emphasize the training.

We are currently taking reservations for the next Citizen Academy class The Academy is open to residents age 18 and over who complete the application process. There is no cost to attend.

Anyone interested in attending this class or future classes can pick up an application at the Florissant Police Department or download an application from the Florissant Police Department web site, www.florissantmo.com/police Applications must be mailed to, or dropped off at, the Florissant Police Department.  Seating is limited so register early.  For additional information please contact Sgt. Kevin Boschert in the Crime Prevention Unit at 314-830-6042.
