Officer Matthew Simpson is a six generation Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Officer, a heritage dating to 1863. He currently holds a position in Public Information with the Office of the Chief of Police.

Officer Simpson worked in the Surveillance field for 11 years before joining the SLMPD Academy in 2002. He was honored at graduation as the Best Overall Officer of his class.

Officer Simpson worked in the North Patrol Division before being assigned as a Detective with the Crime Suppression Unit and then with the Anti-Crime Unit.

Officer Simpson returned to the North Patrol Division where he ran a Community Crime Prevention Program known as the R.E.N.E.W. Project. During this time he helped install and ran Saint Louis’s first gun-shot detection system.

His work in the R.E.N.E.W. Project awarded him a Proclamation of Achievement from the Saint Louis City Board of Alderman in 2008.

Officer Simpson is well respected for his knowledge of “street” and “community” policing and has received 15 awards while serving with the SLMPD, which includes a Medal of Valor in 2009.

Officer Simpson is a Photographer and Columnist for a monthly publication. Officer Simpson is also an event Photographer, photographing various professional and private occasions.

Officer Simpson has a Bachelor’s of Science in Criminology; a near completed Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology and is working on a Bachelor’s of Art in Photography.

Officer Simpson is a life long resident of Saint Louis, and resides in the metropolitan area with his family.
