Chief Daniel Isom was appointed Chief of Police for the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department on October 6, 2008.
Chief Isom has served in patrol, investigative, training and administrative assignments during his tenure with the police department.
After graduating from the Police Academy, he was assigned to the Eighth District, Mobile Reserve Unit and the St. Louis Police Academy.
Chief Isom was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1995 and Lieutenant in 1998.
Chief Isom reached the rank of Captain in 2002 and Major in 2007.
Chief Isom holds a Bachelor, Master and a Ph.D. in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Missouri - Saint Louis. He also holds a Masters in Public Administration from Saint Louis University. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Police Executive Forum Senior Management Institute.
Chief Isom currently serves on the Advisory Board for St. Louis University's School of Public Service and the New Beginnings C-Star Treatment Center. He is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives. He is also a Track and Field Coach for the Police Athletic League.
Chief Isom is a lifelong Saint Louis City resident and grew up in the Penrose Neighborhood, where he attended Saint Louis University High School.
Chief Isom and his wife Virginia have two children, Alexandria and Daniel, and live in the metropolitan area.
