Youth Activities in Florissant Parks Increases
Youth activities in the Florissant Parks and Community Centers have increased substantially according to Mayor Robert G. Lowery, Sr. of the City of Florissant. The Mayor said he is proud to fulfill a promise that he would have more programs to be of interest to the youth of the community. The City is working with local youth athletic organizations such as the Catholic Youth Council and the Florissant Area Athletic Association to offer teams a field for practice during their regular seasons. While most of these teams are from Florissant, we have also been able to attract many young players from cities all over the St. Louis area, such as St. Charles, St. Peters and Bridgeton. This program has been utilized by area teams for the past 3 years and is very popular due to the number of available fields and the inexpensive fee charged by the City. There are currently over 80 youth teams utilizing the twenty plus baseball and softball fields.
Also according to Mayor Lowery, the City will be offering youth volleyball leagues and beach tournaments played on our beautiful white sand courts in St. Ferdinand Park. There are 30 teams/300 players since the addition of the Bud Sports League that utilize these volleyball courts and fields. Mayor Lowery gives a great deal of credit to the staff of the Parks Department and the program director Brendan Kane for the outstanding success of these programs.
Mayor Lowery said, "The Park Community Centers have not had this much usage in many years. My administration and I will strive to pursue other events for our youth and young adults and will continue our senior programs so that our citizens will have more activities to promote a healthy life style."
