St. Sophia's Nursing Home
April 3, 2009

Mayor Robert G. Lowery, Sr. of Florissant announced today that while the City has experienced a very tragic incident at the St. Sophia’s Nursing Home this morning, he is exceptionally proud of the actions of the Florissant Police Department and the Florissant Valley Fire Protection District.

The Mayor adds that the men and women from these departments responded quickly, efficiently, and with the highest degree of professionalism as they did their job to secure the scene, and to lend help to those that needed it.  This incident could have turned out to be a very tragic one if it was not for these men and women.

We are all very saddened that this unfortunate event has occurred and we extend our sincere sympathies to the families that were affected by this incident.

Based on the information that I have received from Police Chief Bill Karabas, it only goes to show that once again this police department is second to none.  The men and women of this police department responded quickly and they acted in the highest degree of professionalism to get the incident under control.  I applaud their efforts and words cannot describe how proud I am of the Chief of Police and the police officers for their heroic actions.

Unfortunately incidents like this one this morning are happening all over the country not just here.   We are doing our best to keep crime down in our city.  If a crime does occur in our city you can rest assure that we will make ever attempt to apprehend the one (s) that were responsible and see that they are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

This Administration will not rest when it comes to deterring crime in our City.  Everyone needs to work together to help reduce crime and together we can make a difference and continue making our City a great place to work, to live and to raise a family.
