“Mayor Lowery Announces Florissant and MoDOT Working Together With Two Large Projects on North Lindbergh Boulevard”
August 21, 2008

Mayor Robert G. Lowery, Sr. announced that the City of Florissant will receive federal reimbursement money for the North Lindbergh Boulevard/North Highway 67 Corridor Enhancement Project - Phase II in the summer of 2009.  The enhancement work will start shortly after the resurfacing project, which began this month, is completed.  The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is fully funding the resurfacing along with the installation of new curb and guttering on North Lindbergh Boulevard from I-270 to New Halls Ferry Road.  In addition to the resurfacing work, MoDOT will be installing additional right hand turn lanes along the north side of North Lindbergh  Boulevard at the intersections of Patterson Road and Lindsay Lane.  The installation of the right hand turn lanes are a result of the City of Florissant’s grant application to State Farm Insurance Company back in 2004.  Since taking office in 2001 one of Mayor Lowery’s highest priorities is alleviating traffic congestion along North Lindbergh Boulevard.  Through the awarded grant from State Farm Insurance Company to the City of Florissant, Mayor Lowery began meeting with design consultants to determine the best use of the initial $20,000.00 for redesign purposes.  After proposing several alternatives to MoDOT it was agreed that the best use of the design money would go towards creating additional right hand turn lanes in order to alleviate traffic congestion north from Patterson Road and west from Lindsay Lane.

Phase II of the enhancement project will extend from Charbonier/Washington Street, where Phase I was completed, through Lindsay Lane and Patterson Road up to the bridge at Coldwater Creek.  Scott J. Smith, City Engineer, said “the linking of these two much needed projects could not have happened with out the diligent efforts for Mayor Lowery.”

Mayor Lowery has worked hard with representatives of the East-West Gateway Council of Governments along with Governor Matt Blunt to continuously bring more federally reimbursed projects into the City of Florissant every year.
Lowery stated “next year we will begin the design of the Greenway Chase Drive Bridge replacement utilizing federal grant money.”

The Public Works Department will be responsible for assuring the quality of these upcoming projects through design and construction.  The City will benefit from an estimated cost totaling over $3.4 million including design and construction for both projects.  If you have any particular questions regarding this information please contact Scott J.
