URGENT
Scheduling of Emergency Personnel
State of Missouri
Mayor Robert G. Lowery, Sr., City of Florissant, announced that he is extremely alarmed that the amendment on the Minimum Wage Bill allowed for Police officers, Firefighters, and Ambulance personnel to work 40 hour schedules. All groups, including St. Louis County and Missouri Municipal League members, are opposed to this concept since administrators and professionals agree that these hours cannot be applied to these 24 hour a day/7 days a week service providers. Mayor Lowery said that it is amazing that Representative Shannon Cooper of the Rules Committee can hold this bill hostage after unanimous 34-0 approval. Changes are required to allow these emergency people to go back to the previous schedule without seriously handicapping the health and safety of the residents of Missouri. If this bill is passed, it would have drastic results for public safety as many Police officers, Firefighters, and Ambulance personnel would have to be laid off just to accommodate the arrogance of one legislator. Mayor Lowery wants the people of Missouri to know and understand that we are alarmed. One man is taking his 15 minutes of glory at the expense of every man, woman and child in the State of Missouri.
Mayor Lowery is asking for the public to act now and contact their State legislators regarding Senate Bill #255 and stop this idiotic man from tampering with good government and jeopardizing our safety. If this bill stays in effect, it would cost the City of Florissant alone an additional $50,000.00 per month to maintain our Police protection at the current level. Mayor Lowery said, "Do not allow one State Representative with a big ego to threaten our lives and communities. Act now, let your representatives know that this is a serious threat to the citizens of Missouri."
