LOWERY EXPRESSES DEEP CONCERN OVER LOSS TO BOEING COMPANY
March 20, 2008

Today Mayor Robert G. Lowery said that he is extremely upset over the loss of a $40 billion contract for Air Force tankers to be built by a company in France instead of Boeing Company here in the United States. Mayor Lowery said he is also concerned that other organizations, such as the St. Louis County Municipal League, Missouri Municipal League and others in leadership roles across the metro area and the state are not speaking out against this loss to an American company. He also stated that he is most concerned over the loss of jobs to people in this country who build our defense mechanisms.

Mayor Lowery said, “We are facing a crisis in this country and for our own government to do this to our people is unthinkable and a crime. While it will probably never be read, I will be sending a letter to the President of the United States stating that this is detestable.”

The Mayor said he is calling upon all of you to send letters and speak with both of the U.S. Senators and the Congress members of the State of Missouri to express your deep concern over this most upsetting occurrence.
