MAYOR LOWERY SUPPORTS UNITED WAY 2-1-1 SYSTEM
April 7, 2008

Today, Mayor Robert G. Lowery, Sr. of the City of Florissant announced his support of the new 2-1-1 referral service designed to relieve the 9-1-1 emergency system from dealing with non-emergency situations. The program provides total landline coverage in Missouri whereby a caller will be referred to the correct agency or organization in their area to assist them in dealing with their specific problem or concern. Mayor Lowery said, "So often, citizens have crises in their lives and do not know where to go for help. This service is a God-send for these people."

Callers will be connected to trained Information and Referral Specialists who will search an extensive database and directly connect the caller to the resource. They may also conduct a follow-up call to be sure the caller was able to get the services they need.

Some health and human service issues that may be handled are:

  1. Basic human needs (food pantries, help with energy bills or housing)
  2. Physical and mental health resources
  3. Employment support
  4. Support for older adults, people with disabilities and children
  5. Volunteer/donor opportunities

If you or someone you know are in need of these services, please do not hesitate to call 2-1-1.

Interpreter services are available for persons whose primary language is not English and a TDD line is available for the hearing impaired.
