Veterans Commission

Congressionally chartered organizations are national in scope having several thousand members nationwide. These familiar groups, American Legion, DAV, VFW, AMVETS, VVA, KWV, have local affiliations through established posts. However, unfamiliar to many, is the service officer network at local VA Regional Offices.

 

The organization service officer, through a special Congressional Charter, can represent individual veterans concerning claims with the US Department of Veterans Affairs. These services are free to veterans and are not contingent of organization membership, however membership is strongly encouraged to support the various programs and services offered. Overall, membership is a consideration as the veterans organizations testify in Congress to support programs for veterans..

 

Another plus is the free publications and information sent to members. Additional information the Service Officer can provide is: “HOW TO...”, example, How to get information on entitlements, like Education, Emergency Assistance, Transient Services, Employment, State and Federal Resources, Health Care, Social Services, Business and Legal Services.

The Florissant Veterans Commission is 21 community members, appointed by Robert G. Lowery, Sr,. MAYOR of the City of Florissant. All members of the commission are service veterans.
